The 29th Annual Box and Container Show Winners have been Announced! This year both our public and jury agreed on the "Best in Show". First Place and the People's Choice Award as voted for by our customers goes to "Ocean Home" by Bellevue Washington artist John Shrader. "Ocean Home" was created out of holly wood, meticulously pierced and carved in geometric shapes and accented with the contrasting red bloodwood. This vessel was inspired by microscopic sea creatures called radiolarians, who make then live in beautiful glass like enclosures. Congratulations John on the dual win! |
Second Place Second place winner "A Box for Yew" by Greg Klassen was created using thick, hand cut veneers of yew wood, along with afzelia and Mendocino cypress wood. The unique and challenging part of this piece was the use of end grain on the exterior. The resulting patterns both subtle and striking.
