News for December 11th, 2008
Northwest Fine Woodworking (NWFW), a cooperative gallery established for the display and sale of contemporary wood studio furniture by its member craftsmen, today announced that it has plans to redefine its mission. The Northwest Fine Woodworking cooperative is organizing to create Northwest Furniture Arts, a 501 c (3) organization dedicated to creating a community of artists and patrons who believe that the studio arts are intrinsic to a vibrant arts community.
The cooperative will continue to promote Pacific Northwest craftsmen through the sale of their work. In addition, NWFW will embark on a program to encourage and assist the next generation of woodworkers through mentoring and scholarships. They will also seek to expand public awareness of the nature and history of the studio furniture movement through lectures, workshops and studio tours. And finally, they will coordinate and mount Seattle-area exhibitions of contemporary studio furniture by local, national, and global craftsmen.
The Seattle area has been extremely supportive of the craft of studio furniture making over the past 28 years. The Board of Directors of NWFW sees this move to non-profit status as a way to ensure the continuation of the craft of studio furniture for future generations.
