Stephen Hatcher is a Northwest artist whose work has been showcased in national and international magazines, as well as being featured in shows and exhibits all over the US. Since 1998, most of his work is turned wood that has been inlayed with mineral crystals to create images. Common themes include the changing seasons and nature. It is unique in both style and technique. He is the first place winner of the 2005 Box and Container Show. Shown here are three examples of his work showcased at our gallery this month. |

This turning is the seventeenth in a series of platters by this name, each with a unique design. It is turned from curly figured big leaf maple, and the tree design is inlayed translucent green calcite crystals and black mica. The blossoms are pink coral with red and white dolmite centers. |

"Strings That Bind Us" This turning is the first in a series of platters made from dyed maple and stone inlay. It is turned from figured big leaf maple, and the voids are inlayed with translucent honey calcite, blue azurite and black mica. The effect of light on this piece is amazing. |
