The first encounter with Stewart Wurtz’s incomparable designs elicit comments about the contemporary form, the beautiful radiant line, and the pure functionality of the piece. The use of prismatic woods in combination with contrasting complimentary woods is generally the next thing that people notice. The shear gymnastics necessary to create the pieces and the technical mountains that have been overcome to achieve such an aesthetically pleasing piece generally go unnoticed. That is just the way Stewart wants it! |

His careful choice of woods serves to “create a dialogue between an asymmetrical tension and a keen sense of harmony”, nowhere more apparent then on his Eucalyptus Desk 2.0. An illustrious career hasn’t caused Wurtz to be unapproachable. He remains a very strong advocate for hands on woodworking and proves to be an eloquent speaker on the subject. This year find him at the Bellevue Art Museum giving a lively account of his past |
