The workshop of artisan Curtis Erpelding.

Rich Soborowicz working on a custom Tansu.

Furniture that is truly custom, designed and built for the individual client, is one of the most unique and valuable services offered by Northwest Fine Woodworking. You have the opportunity to work directly with the artisan to create a piece of furniture made specifically for YOU.

We have over 20 members and many non-member furniture artisans that can create work for you.

How to order custom furniture:
When you decide to invest in a piece of custom furniture designed and built by one of our artisans, you are embarking on a time honored tradition of studio furniture making. As each woodworker has their own design style, it's a good idea to browse our selection of furniture to see what furniture most closely matches your desired custom project. If you can't find what you are looking for, please contact us with the details of your project, and one of our salespeople will help you find the artisan most suited for the job. The same salesperson will help you with every step of the process from initial contact to payment and shipping or delivery.

Choosing the right woodworker for the project:
Each woodworker creates their furniture from their own designs and in their own style. It's helpful to our salespeople to get an idea what artists or pieces of furniture most interest you. Browse our furniture by room or type, or look at our individual members' pages for inspiration.

Please note that our artisans do not do reproductions of any kind, nor do they do repairs or alter existing furniture not of their own creation.

The Custom Design Fee:
Where sketches, drawings or models are required there is an initial design fee of $250. For multiple designs or more complex work this fee may be higher. All design fees are incorporated into the cost of the final job.

Placing the Order:
Studio furniture is built to meet each customer's needs. We require 50% of the provided quote to initiate an order. The balance is due at the time of completion, prior to delivery. when you place your order, we will provide written confirmation including a description of the piece, the name of the commissioned artisan, the costs, as well as the estimated date of delivery. Artists have differing delivery times, but most orders take 6 - 18 weeks to complete, depending on the complexity of the job and availability of the artisan.

Please contact us if you have any questions about custom furniture, or if you are ready to place an order. You can also visit our FAQ page for more information.
